Medals have been presented to young bookworms during ceremonies in Fenland.

Youngsters in Chatteris, March and Wisbech followed the adventures of mythical creatures during the summer.

Children were challenged to read six books following a mythical maze theme.

A total of 126 children completed the challenge at Chatteris library and 60 youngsters received their medals from children’s library manager Richard Young.

March mayor Kit Owen and his deputy Rob Skoulding presented 155 medals to children at the town’s library. A total of 287 March children had completed the challenge.

The library’s Jennifer Gray said: “We had an increase on last year in the number of children completing.”

More than 180 children completed the challenge at Wisbech library and mayor Michael Hill presented medals to 45 youngsters. Area library manager Alison Sutton said: “The children were really proud. Their faces were beaming.”
