THREE local men are celebrating after scooping top prizes at the prestigious London to Brighton Run held over the May Bank Holiday weekend.
Former haulier John Thomas, who ran Ken Thomas Transport at Guyhirn until retirement seven years ago, won his class with a late entry of a 1969 ERF Tractor unit.
He then went on to take second prize in the Best of Show, having been pipped to the top prize by fellow local haulier Tony Knowles of Wimblington.
And completing the hat trick for Fenland was George Dunlop, who came in third in the Best in Show with Wisbech’s vintage fire engine Vivienne.
All three men completed the 50 plus miles from London to Brighton in their vehicles on Sunday May 1 in time for the judging.
More than 200 vehicles of all shapes, sizes and age took part in the famous motoring event, making the Fenland trio’s achievement all the sweeter.
Mr Thomas said that both he and Mr Knowles have enjoyed lots of success in the show over the years with both having won the Best in Show trophy several times in the past.
“It was great to see three people from within a few miles of each other taking the top three places,” added Mr Thomas.
