BEREAVED families and friends in the March and Chatteris area will be able to pay a special tribute to their loved ones this Christmas.
In Chatteris heartfelt messages will be hung on the town’s Christmas tree for the first time this year and will help to raise money for local charities.
The Star For A Star initiative is being launched by J H Landin and Son at 72 High Street, Chatteris.
You can have a special message for your loved one placed on a wooden star for a donation of £3. Staff there are available to help, any time between 9am and 5pm, Monday-Friday.
All donations will go to Mayor of Chatteris Peter Murphy’s charity fund to be shared amongst local worthy causes.
The stars will be displayed on the town’s Christmas tree in front of the parish church over the festive period after the big switch-on on December 3.
Coun Murphy said: “When J H Landin and Son approached me I was quite taken by the idea and I’d like to thank them for doing it for my charity fund.
“The Christmas tree and the tributes will be seen by a lot of people in Chatteris town centre and I hope a lot of people will take advantage of a really nice way to remember their loved ones.”
In March George James and Son are repeating the hearts and stars tributes they launched last year at their City Road funeral home.
The free tributes will be placed on a Christmas tree in the foyer which has been donated by Skylark Garden Centre at Wimblington. It will be blessed during a special ceremony involving three local clergy on December 1.
Funeral director Tamara Fulcher said: “We had lots of tributes placed on our tree last year. The idea was very well received.
“If you’d like to place a message to your loved one on the tree this year, just call in and see us and we will help.”
