For the fifth year running, Fenland District Council is hosting a special ceremony to pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice of our servicemen and women.
All former members of the armed services are invited to attend a flag-raising ceremony and parade of standards on Monday, June 24, at Fenland Hall, County Road, March. Light refreshments will be served in the Council Chamber following the parade.
The event comes a few days before the official Armed Forces Day on June 29. It is being hosted by Councillor Ken Mayor, FDC’s chairman.
If you belong to an organisation that has a standard and would like to take part in the parade, call Sharon Smith on 01354 622281 or email email@example.com by June 19 at the latest.
Former members of the services who would like to attend should also register their names with the council as soon as possible.
Cllr Mayor, who is also chairman of the Whittlesey branch of the Royal British Legion, will recite
the famous Kohima epitaph, “When you go home, tell them of us and say ‘For their tomorrow, we gave our today’”, before the raising of the Armed Forces Day flag.
A special Armed Forces Day flag will be flown outside Fenland Hall for a week from June 24-29.
