Past pupils and the Mayor and Mayoress of Wisbech were among those to help a former Fenland teacher mark her 100th birthday.

Dulcie Bamber, who was a teacher at Emneth Nursery School for 39 years, celebrated reaching her centenary year with a special gathering at Wisbech’s Glennfield Care Centre on Thursday.

She was joined by friends and family on the day, along with Wisbech Mayor and Mayoress Michael and Jane Hill, and pupils she used to teach many years ago.

Members of Wisbech Lions Club also paid a visit and donated a birthday cake.

Miss Bamber, who retired in 1971, also received flowers and gifts, as well as a birthday card from the Queen.

She has lived in the Wisbech area all her life, attended Wisbech High School, and is the eldest of four siblings.
