The Peele Leisure Centre in Long Sutton is putting on free badminton, table tennis, basketball and bouncy castle sessions later this month as as part of the nation’s biggest sports day: I Am Team GB.

The centre is hosting the sports hall event on Saturday, August 27 to get more people active and celebrate Team GB’s achievements at the Rio 2016 Games.

I Am Team GB is a nationwide campaign that has inspired thousands of UK clubs to open their doors to new participants.

The badminton, table tennis, basketball and bouncy castle activities will be available all day and for all ages at the Peele, from 9am until 4pm.

A spokesman for the centre said: ““We are so pleased to put on this great event and be part of I Am Team GB.

“Sport brings communities closer together and we are immensely proud at Peele Leisure Centre to be part of this nationwide celebration of sport.”

The initiative has been rolled out by ITV and The National Lottery, working with the British Olympic Association, UK Sport and supported by Join In.

During the four-year buildup to Rio 2016, Lottery players contributed £80m a year towards the Olympic and Paralympic cause. ITV wants to use the scale of its network to get people out and active on August 27 and Join In is a London 2012 legacy charity that puts more volunteers into community sport. The British Olympic Association, UK Sport, and Sport England also support I Am Team GB.
