VILLAGERS in Benwick marked the Diamond Jubilee with four days of celebrations.

A darts competition at the Five Alls started the events off on Friday and they culminated with a children’s It’s A Knockout and a tug-of-war yesterday at the school.

An estimated 300 to 350 residents joined a street party on Monday in High Street while the Scouts, Beavers and Cubs transformed themselves into human-powered karts and raced along High Street.

Residents decorated their homes, made royal scarecrows and enjoyed fancy dress competitions.

There were cup cakes, music, a bouncy castle and a treasure hunt for children.

The events were funded by the parish council with grants of £1,000 each from Fenland Council and the Big Lottery.
