Fun in the sun at Doddington

Glorious sunshine helped to make Doddington’s annual carnival a scorching success on Saturday.

The organisers said it was a “brilliant turn out for the parade and the sports in the afternoon in glorious weather”.

Six floats were in the parade along with the Steel Drum fiesta, Dance and Twirl Dance Group, the Caledonian Pipe Band, singer Bondy, a vintage motorbike/tractor, military vehicles, Morris Minors and Dew’s bus.

The sports in the afternoon was also a big success.

Results: Senior Float winner: The Gowler Family; runner-up: Mad Mums and Chums. Junior Float winner: Lionel Walden School; runner-up: Doddington Cubs, Beavers & Scouts. Fancy Dress Junior winner: Tommie Grange; runner-up: Dani Kingston. Fancy Dress Senior winner: Alex Buxton; runner-up: Ellea Cutteridge. Adult Fancy Dress winners: The Umpa Lumpas; runner-up Tara Fiveash. Soapbox winner James Woolfall. Scarecrow winner was the Duncan-Finn Family.

This year’s carnival Prince and Princess were Nicholas Lambert and Sophie Gillett, who are pictured right.
