A fun, family friendly cycling festival is arriving in Chatteris this Sunday to encourage communities to get on and stay on their bikes.

The Cambridgeshire Festival of Cycling will be at Furrowfields car park on 16 June from 10.30am - 4.30pm. The free festival has been organised by Cambridgeshire County Council and caters for all cyclists, from the first-time to the experienced.

A wide range of bikes will be free to try-out, including children’s, tandems, wacky, trikes, cargo and recumbent bikes. The ever-popular smoothie bike will also be there to turn fresh fruit into a healthy drink using pedal power.

The March Veteran and Vintage Cyclist Club will also be attending. Dressed in period attire, they will bring their rare collection of bikes, including Penny Farthings.

Dr Bike will also be carrying out free maintenance checks and basic repairs on existing cyclists’ bikes. There will also be competitions and interactive feedback walls to find out residents’ views of cycling.

Mike Davies, Cambridgeshire County Council’s Cycling Projects Team Leader said: “We’re really excited about coming to Chatteris this weekend. Cycling is healthy, free and environmentally friendly. The events are a great opportunity to find out more about cycling and discuss with council staff the facilities that local communities need.”

The Cambridgeshire Festival of Cycling began in April and so far, hundreds of local residents have attended. The festival has been part-funded through the Government’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund.
