MARCH dancer Robynne Haynes will literally be taking the plunge to celebrate her 21st birthday when she sky dives out of a plane.
Robynne will actually turn 21 in August but she is having an early celebration on Monday (June 15) when she undertakes her daredevil jump at the North London Parachute Club near Wimblington.
Robynne, who works at the Peterborough Music Centre, explained she has been contemplating doing a parachute jump for sometime and decided that the milestone birthday was a good opportunity.
She has treated herself to the exhilarating experience to mark her coming of age but said she was also using it as an opportunity to fundraise for a local organisation close to her heart.
Robynne is hoping to raise as much money as possible for local dance group Dance Mania.
The former Neale-Wade Community College pupil, from March, has been with Dance Mania since it was launched by dance instructor Lisa Dickinson 15 years ago in 1996 and has loved every minute of being part of the dancing phenomenon it has become.
To celebrate its anniversary Dance Mania has launched a year of fundraising to buy new rehearsal equipment including microphones and sound systems as well as new costumes including tutus.
Over the past 15 years Dance Mania has grown from around 20 dancers to now having about 200 regulars ranging in age from four to 71 years.
There is also to be a celebratory ball in August to mark the anniversary.
To sponsor Robynne you can either collect a sponsorship form from any Dance Mania Class – classes are held at the March Community Education Centre in Station Road daily including Saturday mornings – or visit a special Dance Mania stall which will be in West End Park for this Saturday’s March Summer Festival.
