A family day out marked the golden wedding anniversary of Leverington couple Jackie and Ralph Green on Saturday.
The couple met through Ralph’s sister, who worked with Jackie at Woolworth’s. They were introduced and the rest, as they say, is history.
They had a brief falling-out while they were engaged, but worked it out and married on May 4, 1963, at St Augustine’s Church in Wisbech. Jackie said they were obviously “meant to be”.
Jackie and Ralph had three children – Sharon, Shaun and Sonya – and now have four grandchildren.
Jackie worked in retail and spent 13 years at a local butcher’s shop after her children were older. Ralph worked at Smedley’s and later at Metalbox for many years, until he retired.
The couple were surprised by their son coming from Lancashire to celebrate their anniversary with them, as they thought he couldn’t come. They are planning a trip to the Isle of Wight later in the year.
