Fundraisers, who have helped to raise money for local cancer patients, have been praised by the chairman of Wisbech and District Cancer Support Group.
Anita Barker said: “It is great the efforts these volunteer fundraisers make to enable us to support local cancer sufferers - any help is appreciated.”
Her comments came as the group officially presented a special bed to Wisbech’s North Cambs Hospital.
The state-of-the-art bed is in a side room off Trafford Ward and Mrs Barker said the lion’s share of the money towards its purchase came from a very successful Valentine’s Ball organised for the first time this year by Wisbech mum Marlene Moden and daughters Nicola Knight and Rachael Richmond along with Jo Warren which raised over £5,000.
Mrs Barker said: “We are a local group, formed nearly 12 years ago, and all the money raised is spent within a ten-mile radius. I am very keen that the public know where we spend the money,”
Mrs Barker added the special bed is one the hospital have been wanting for a while. It makes nursing access to the patient easier and adds to the comfort of patients.
“I want to thank people for all the fundraising and the good work they do,” said Mrs Barker.
