A PERMANENT venue for a diabetic eye screening service is still being sought in Chatteris.
The service has been trialled at several places around the town, but a spokesperson for NHS Cambridgeshire said a suitable location has not yet been found.
Patients are currently being offered appointments in March, which has made some unhappy.
Reg Wenn is one of the patients affected and has been attending appointments at the George Clare Surgery. He does not believe no suitable location can be found and said he was very happy with the service at the surgery.
“This sort of stupid action will undermine all the good work done at the George Clare Surgery,” he said. “There the diabetic clinics are first class. I have no choice but to make a stand. I will refuse any appointment outside of Chatteris.”
The NHS spokesperson said: “The current service is not based at George Clare Surgery but has been trialled in a number of different venues in Chatteris, none of which have been suitable to date. We are still trying to find a permanent venue for the diabetic eye screening service in Chatteris and hope to have a solution shortly.
“However, in the meantime we are offering patients appointments for the service in March. If patients are unable to attend the March clinic then they will be offered an appointment in Chatteris once the venue has been finalised.”
