THE fundraising efforts of a sister of one of the health workers at the Peckover Ward at North Cambs Hospital, Wisbech, has helped to purchase a new patient trolley bed used for endoscopy procedures.
Wendy Boughen, whose sister Angie Dennis, is an endoscopy support worker with Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust, which runs the unit, recently presented a cheque for £813 after a raffle at Southery Auction Hall.
This is the third year running that Wendy, who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer at the hospital, has organised fundraising events to support the unit.
And she plans do more later this year. Wendy said: “I’ve received brilliant treatment from Mr Cullen and the oncology team at North Cambs Hospital and my sister also works there, so I had double the reason to do what I could to support such dedicated staff.”
Elizabeth Kaynak, Ward Sister, said: “We would like to thank Wendy for her hard work organising the raffle and the fantastic amount that was raised.
“Wendy’s efforts have helped us to purchase the bed to add to the five we already have which are more comfortable for patients and much easier to manoeuvre.”
The team at Wisbech sees around 2,500 patients each year. The specialist trolley beds help to improve the standard of care provided.
