The weather was perfect on Sunday for bike riding and members of March Veteran and Vintage Cycle Club were delighted.

Sunday was the 28th annual downhill ride in the town and 31 members of the club came out in the sunshine to enjoy a lovely ride.

They cycled almost seven miles before heading to the Norwood Road railway bridge for the highlight of the ride – a freewheel down the bridge.

And this year saw the longest distance recorded as Colin Bedford travelled almost 300 metres without touching the pedals.

He employed a number of “tricks of the trade” to travel this enviable distance, including putting extra air in the tyres and removing excess weight from the bike to make it as light as possible.

He was presented with the Johnson Cup.

The women’s winner was Pauline Granger, who was presented with the Tom Young Trophy.

The club then enjoyed a meal at the Plate and Porter restaurant.
