Many small businesses and their owners long for a bit of R &R, but not the R &R that springs to mind – rest and relaxation.

I mean referral and recommendation. The growth of our businesses and keeping current customers is crucial to our business survival, strength and growth.

Having been in business for six-and-a-half years I can speak from experience about my business growth.

In the early years I was very lucky to build a client base from long-established friends and family friends. The loyalty and support shown helped me to establish a base for myself.

As the business grew many clients were then gained from networking and marketing associations with local professionals like bank managers, solicitors and financial advisers.

Referral from these associations helped grow our customer base and the strength of these referrals made our initial meetings with new clients much more solid.

Having clients referred in this way is a great reward as it shows that the associates you work with respect you and trust you will look after their mutual customers.

As the business grew further we started to pick up customers from our current customers. There’s nothing more satisfying than a customer saying “I’ve passed your details onto a friend in business” and to then have the opportunity to meet and build a new relationship.

Looking after our customers is a great way of ensuring your business stays strong and even grows.

We find that most new clients like a couple of links to us. With referrals and recommendations this can be very successful – comfort that a friend has recommended us often relaxes the potential client, which allows initial meetings to flow and good relationships to build.

We strongly believe in recommendation and referral and we refer and recommend businesses to other businesses or individuals wherever possible.

Back to the title R&R, it’s also vitally important for all business owners to get a bit of rest and relaxation as well, to ensure we stay lovely and focussed and as efficient as possible.

We enjoy all 4 R’s – rest, relaxation, referral and recommendations!
