Former Wisbech man Jeff Hickson (45) is through to the final of the BBC’s One Show for the Best Chilli.
Readers can find out how Jeff fared when the final is screened this Friday (April 12). Jeff, a Support Services Manager in the Private health sector, saw an appeal on the programme asking for recipes in a bid to find the UK’s best Chilli.
Viewers were asked to submit their Chilli recipe. Thinking his recipe was good enough, Jeff took the opportunity to do a photo recipe and send off his entry.
Some days later he received a call from the production team asking about why his recipe was so different. Explaining about his recipe, the team called back and Jeff learned he had been selected as a finalist. Travelling to South Wales a few weeks ago, Jeff was matched against two other contestants with Jay Rayner, food critic for the Observer and One Show Foodie Friday Reporter judging.
The contestants cooked for all they were worth with three very different styles of Chilli before the judges.
On Friday’s show the winner receives their Chilli-themed prize and a chance to share the sofa with Jay Rayner, Alex Kingston, Chris Evans and celebrity guest.
While not being able to reveal the result ahead of Friday, Jeff said he was quietly confident that his dish could be in with a chance.
