ANGLIA in Bloom judges Nolan Mills and Brian Gardner visited Wisbech to judge the town in the regional section of the RHS Britain in Bloom competition.
Their route took them to a variety of places and escorting them were Brian Massingham (Wisbech in Bloom chairman), Penny Stocks (secretary) and Bob Ollier, Fenland Council’s Parks and Open Spaces Manager.
The results won’t be announced until September 11 at a presentation at St Ives.
Wisbech has enjoyed success in the competition with prestigious awards of gold in the last four years. Last year the town won Best Large Town and Wisbech has also won the Best Large Town in the UK.
It has been a challenge for the committee this year to come up to such a high standard in view of the weather, which Penny said hasn’t helped the plants and hanging baskets to look their best and has also made grass cutting difficult.
“We have pulled out all the stops,” said Penny, adding the volunteers were out in the rain just hours before the judges were due doing last minute tidying up.
“We were so delighted we got a lovely sunny day for the judging,” added Penny.
