Wisbech Neighbourhood Watch is looking to increase the number of potentially crime-busting schemes the in town and surrounding villages.
The aim is for local people working together to make places safe - looking out for neighbours and making sure no one feels alone, scared or vulnerable and the organisers are appealing to members of the community to think about starting a scheme in your street.
Each scheme is owned and run by the community and led by a local volunteer co-ordinator. Schemes can vary from a few houses to a large estate. Neighbourhood Watch schemes join forces with the police and other organisations in an effort to make their neighbourhood secure and pleasant.
PC Julie Coales said: “NHW is not run by the police but volunteers. Working with the police, it helps by giving crime prevention advice, leaflet drops, displaying posters, passing information to the community about crime or suspicious incidents, people or vehicles.”
