Knockout fayre

There was glorious sunshine for this year’s Wisbech St Mary Country Fayre.

The popular ‘It’s a Knockout’ competition was centre stage on Saturday, with nine teams going head to head in an inflatable and foam filled battlefield. For the first time, teenagers could also take part in a youth competition; four teams took part and organisers hope more will take part next year.

The adult winners were Turner Contractors and the youth winners were Wisbech St Mary youth football team.

On Sunday, around 2,100 people flocked to the village playing field for the second day of the fayre. There was a packed schedule, from chainsaw carving to a falconry display, with no shortage of activities to keep families amused.

Bex Lee, one of the organisers, said: “It went really well and the weather was on our side this year! The acts were brilliant and there were loads of stalls. It was a brilliant day.”

There was also a four-day Beerfest that ran from Thursday to Sunday and live entertainment in the evenings.
