The local community of Outwell came together to help out with fallen and damaged trees, which created electricity power cuts in the village at around 3am on Saturday.

There were gusts of wind up to 70mph during the night and two large trees, on the verge between A1122 Outwell Road and A1101 Isle Road, were affected.

Resident Patricia Harris, who took these pictures said: “One was totally uprooted and the other was so severely damaged it had to be taken down. Fortunately the trees did not fall into the road and no one was hurt.

UK Power Networks engineers started work at 6am, to try to restore the damaged cables. Some of the workers had only finished at 11pm the previous night. Parts of the village were without electricity until 9 am whilst others had to wait until nearer 3pm for their supply to be restored.”

Patricia added: “Several residents from the village turned out in the wind with chainsaws and trailers to help cut and clear away the enormous amount of wood that was created by the severe weather conditions.”

Fire crews and an emergency team from UK Power Networks were called to March Road, Friday Bridge at 1am on Saturday after a tree next to an old people’s home fell into a garden and damaged power cables.

Fire crews cordoned off the area while the cables were made safe.
