Calling all Chatteris gardeners - the town’s Community Group needs you this summer.
The group is hoping to take over the running of the Open Gardens fundraising event and is looking for people willing to have their garden included in the day.
Chatteris Arthritis Group ran the Open Gardens for several years and it was then taken over by the town’s St John Ambulance when the group gave it up.
But it has not run for the past couple of years, but now Lillian Oakey is hoping to revive, what was a popular event, and wants to hear from anyone who would be willing to open their garden on Sunday July 6 or Sunday July 13 (or if possible both).
Lillian explained she needs at least six people to volunteer their garden, large or small, to make the event worthwhile. It is in aid of the Chatteris Community Group, and in particular its Good Neighbour Medical Loans Scheme, which lends out equipment such as wheelchairs, commodes and walking frames, free of charge, but for a small donation.
Entry to all gardens would be by programme, which would be produced by Chatteris Community Group and money from the sale of the programmes would go to the charity.
Garden owners would need to be available to greet visitors and they can also run stalls, games and offer refreshments to help boost the fundraising effort.
Gardens are usually open from 2pm to 7pm.
Lillian is looking to find a date that suits most people and is asking garden owners to indicate which of the above dates is suitable/preferred and she needs to know by April 27.
Contact Lillian on 01354 695154 or write to 58 Westbourne Road, Chatteris.
