They may not sound much but they’ll make a real difference to people living nearby.
That’s why four councillors got together in Spider Park, Walsoken, to celebrate the the installation of two new wooden benches there.
Fenland District Council Leader Alan Melton and his Cabinet colleague Cllr Peter Murphy, portfolio holder for the environment, took their seat in the sun alongside FDC Cllr David Patrick and Wisbech Town Councillor Rob McLaren.
Cllr Melton agreed to provide £1,440 out of his Leader’s Discretionary Fund to pay for the installation following requests from local councillors for improvements to the park.
Cllr Melton said: “You can have your multi-million pound projects and they get lots of headlines but it’s often the small things like this that actually matter most to local people.”
Cllr Patrick added: “We feel that this part of town has lacked decent facilities, so we’re very pleased to see this. We’re hoping it will be the start of more improvements that would benefit the people of this area.”
