Beware of distraction burglars

Residents are being urged to be vigilant after a woman was targeted by distraction burglars.

Two men and a woman claiming to be giving everyone free broadband knocked on the door of the home in Stephenson Close, March, at about 2pm on Saturday (December 1).

They asked to check the phone line then stole a door key while the victim was distracted.

Nothing else was taken.

One of the men was described as six foot, slim to medium build, in his late 20s to early 30s with short black hair.

The other was six foot, slim to medium build and wore a black jacket.

The woman was 5’8’’ with red hair and was wearing a long dark coat.

Several other people in the area complained that they had similar doorstep callers around the same time.

Detective Constable Mark Yendley said: “These three were knocking on doors pretending to be working for a phone company in order to trick their way into homes.

“I would urge people to always ask for identification from doorstep callers and to never let people into their homes if they have any concerns about them.”

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555111.
