The Wisbech in Bloom Team gathered at Delamores Young Plants at Wisbech St Mary on Friday to officially launch their 2014 in Bloom’ campaign.

Wisbech will be entering the Anglia in Bloom competition in a bid to win their seven consecutive Gold Award and will also be representing the Anglia region in the Large Town category of the Britain in Bloom finals.

Volunteers met to collect thousands of plug plants generously donated by Delamores for the hanging baskets and containers that brighten up Wisbech town centre throughout the summer months.

Over the next week they will be potting up the plants into individual pots to grow on before making up the baskets and containers a few weeks later.

Brian Massingham, Chairman of Wisbech in Bloom said: “Anyone who saw the basket and containers around Wisbech last summer will know what top quality plants Delamores supply. We would like to thank Wayne Eady, managing director of Delamores for supporting Wisbech in Bloom once again.”

Although Friday was the official launch, Wisbech in Bloom volunteers have been working behind the scenes throughout the winter months.

Among other projects, they have been liaising with Cambs County Council on the Nene Quay landscaping scheme, planning commemorative planting for the World War 1 anniversary and designing schemes to reflect the RHS Growing for Gold Campaign to mark 50 years of Britain in Bloom.

The Wisbech in Bloom Team would also like to thank Peter Ward Nurseries, Smiths Farm Shop, Probation Service Community Payback team and Street Pride volunteers for their continued support.
