An anaerobic digester has been given the green light by planners.
Pretoria Energy has been granted planning permission to create 4MW digester plant on a 13 hectare site on land off Iretons Way, Chatteris.
The project was given the go-ahead during a meeting of Fenland District Council’s planning committee on Wednesday last week.
The committee, which was recommended to approve the plant, have imposed conditions relating to vehicle movements and landscaping.
The company, which is based in Cambridge, wants to create energy from maize which will be used at the site and exported to the grid.
The plant will be supplied with 80,000 tonnes of maize, which will be produced locally.
