Couple upset by garden ornament thefts

A WOMAN has hit out at thieves who stole garden ornaments from the front of her house on three occasions, only weeks after she moved into her new home.

Jayne Beesley (56) and her husband Peter moved to Fen Road in Parson Drove from Throckenholt at the end of September. Only a month later, Jayne was stricken when they were targeted three times in ten days by thieves.

"The first time they took a dog," she said. "Then they came back and took a small resin girl.

"Then they took two lions that were cemented onto columns on either side of the front door.

"We're now having wrought iron fencing and gates installed and more cameras on the house so if anyone tries to steal more statues, they'll be caught on camera. How sad it is that everyday working people have to secure their houses and belongings in such a way that we are to live as though we are prisoners."

Jayne and Peter have also glued the remaining statues to the ground to stop them from being taken.

Jayne was very upset by the theft of the ornaments as they hold a lot of memories of her first husband, John Lambie, who died three years ago. John bought the dog and girl for her and the lions were purchased by Jayne in his memory.

"People don't realise the sentiment that goes behind these things," Jayne said. "Even if they're rubbish, they're not to some people."

The thefts took place around the same time as another theft from the same road. Mike Lynne had a generator stolen on October 23. It was used as a back-up for his tropical fish tanks during power cuts.

Anyone with information about the crimes should contact police on 0345-456-4564.
