Cyclist injured after police car collision

A cyclist suffered serious injuries after being involved in a collision with a police car.

The incident happened at around 5.20pm on Monday at the junction of Chase Street and Russell Street.

An eyewitness contacted the Citizen to express his shock at what happened.

He described seeing a man, believed to be in his 40s, on a bicycle go down Chase Street from Lynn Road, being pursued by a police officer on foot.

Further down the road, the collision happened, with the witness hearing the impact from the BP garage on the main road. He then ran down to the scene.

“The man was just laid there,” he said. “The windscreen of the car was broken and the bike was bent in half.”

A police spokesperson said: “We are investigating a collision between a police vehicle and a cyclist that happened in Chase Street, Wisbech, at about 5.20pm on October 7. The cyclist suffered serious, but not life threatening, injuries.”

An ambulance service spokesperson confirmed they took the man to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn, with an arm injury.
