Developing a ‘Positive Self’
Living with a condition like HIV can severely knock asufferers self-confidence but a new course being launched this month aims to help.
Run by charity-funded DHIVERSE the ‘Postive Self’ programme is open to anyone who is HIV positive or affected by the disease, is out of work or works less than 16 hours a week and on benefits and is looking to feel better about themselves and the future.
It will run over six weeks (half a day a week) and will be held at various locations around the county including here in Fenland.
The European-fundedcourse aims to help people come to terms with the diagnosis, something which Bob Dalzell, who has devised the course and will be running it, said can be difficult for most. It will also help people to better understand that it is possible to live a normal, confident and happy life with HIV, equip people with the skills needed to find a job, training course or volunteering role, to generally feel better about getting on with life and also enable people to meet and share experiences with likeminded people.
Bob explained the course will not only be friendly and confidential, but will also include lunch/refreshments.
