Construction work on the new Cromwell Retail Park development in Wisbech is moving along and on schedule for the new Tesco store to open in five months.
The shape of the new superstore and cinema is now evident as the steelwork goes up and project manager Steve Harriman is pleased with how work has gone so far.
“The build is going to schedule,” he said. “We should finish the cinema shell in early December, ready for the fitters to come in, and Tesco should be completed by early November.”
At the moment there are around 80 people working on the site, including 35 groundworkers and 15 steel erectors. This will increase to 150 people at its peak.
It is only now that members of the public can gauge the scale of the development and the new cinema, which is effectively three-stories, can be seen coming from the A47.
The cinema will have two screens below ground level and six on the second floor that will have double-height ceilings. The three restaurants will be on ground level, along with the cinema foyer.
Tesco has a scheduled opening date of February, with the cinema planned for one month later.
