The Environment Agency has issued a Flood Warning for the Tidal Nene, which includes Sutton Bridge and the Wisbech area, as a result of the coastal sea surge which is predicted to occur this evening.

High tide is expected in Wisbech tonight at 7.27pm. The Environment Agency will be closing the Wisbech flood gates this afternoon, and Cambridgeshire County Council’s Highways department will be commencing sand bagging of the gullies and manhole covers within the Quay area to prevent water coming up through the drains.

Fenland District Council is liaising closely with the Environment Agency and Cambridgeshire County Council to monitor the situation.

Any residents worried about flooding in their area should call Floodline on 0845 988 1188 or visit the Environment Agency’s website, www.environment-agency.gov.uk, or Fenland District Council’s website, www.fenland.gov.uk

Detailed advice on flooding can be found on Fenland District Council’s website at www.fenland.gov.uk/article/3979/
