A charity golf day has potted £1,240 for Cancer Research in memory of Wisbech man Bob Johns who died of the disease three years ago.
Bob, was a keen sportsman and loved football as well as golf. He was a member of Tydd Golf Club, which hosted the day the charity tournament on Tuesday.
Around 90 players took part and Bob’s widow Valerie was delighted with the support given to the event by the players, the club and individuals and businesses who donated prizes for a raffle.
Bob defied doctors for over 10 years after being diagnosed with cancer and told he had only months to live. However, he was a fighter and lived for 11 years longer than expected dying in August 2010.
Valerie said Bob’s extraordinary survival was down to the excellent work of Cancer Research, which is why the family fundraise for the charity.
“Without Cancer Research Bob’s life would have been much shorter, the doctor’s warned he had two to six months to live, but the work the charity does in finding ways to treat cancer helped his fight,” said Valerie.
