A tour of Wisbech was enjoyed by more than 40 Grantham Civic Society members.
Wisbech Society members enjoyed hosting a visit from their Lincolnshire colleagues on Wednesday. The coach party was formally welcomed by town mayor and mayoress, Michael and Jane Hill, before they took refreshments and a talking tour of the council chamber. The group enjoyed a walking tour of the town centre, which included Wisbech Society’s blue plaques, the Clarkson Memorial, Centenary Green, the Castle area and The Crescent. A private visit to the Wisbech and Fenland Museum library was arranged to view the original manuscript of the Charles Dickens novel Great Expectations and there was also a guided tour of the parish church of St Peter & St Paul. The party also visited Octavia Hill’s Birthplace House, Peckover House and the General Cemetery. At the end of the day Courtney Finn, speaking for the Grantham Civic Society, expressed his thanks to Wisbech Society and the town.
