A military vehicle display helped to attract an estimated 5,000 people to Hunstanton over Saturday and Sunday.

Scores of vintage cars and military vehicles lined up on The Green at the town for the SOS weekend.

A Spitfire and Hurricane flew over the area after a poignant service to remember fallen servicemen.

The event was organised by Harold Payne, of the Anglia Motel at Holbeach, to raise money for the Royal Anglian Benevolent Fund.

He said: “This weekend was 150 per cent perfect. We had good weather and a brilliant show of people, we could not ask for more.

“I should say there were 5,000 people around The Green. It was packed solid. I had people coming to me to say how fantastic the weekend was.”

People of all ages enjoyed touring around The Green to look at the variety of different vehicles on display. A total of 10 turned up on the Saturday but this rose to 60 the following day thanks to the involvement of the Norwich branch of the Military Vehicles Association.

Among the attractions were the FV432 “British Bulldog” tank along with the motel’s large gun, which is now firing.

A 40ft container filled with model aircraft also attracted large crowds.

There were also a number of American cars and jeeps.

The Spitfire and Hurricane flew over the coastline after wreaths were laid in memory of soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The motel will be hosting a charity weekend to raise money for veterans of the Korean War between Friday, September 26, and Sunday, September 28.
