Hunting for dinosaurs, shark teeth sifting and gold panning are just some of the activities on offer at a top Fenland attraction.
Fossils Galore in High Street, March, has launched its annual summer fun for children during the holidays – and this year it includes two new activities.
On a packed programme for the first time is shark teeth sifting; an outside activity carried out the traditional way by fossil hunters around the world for hundreds of years.
Fossils Galore owner and founder, Jamie Jordan, said the activity was the only one of its kind in Europe.
He said: “It’s a unique experience for everyone who takes part, both young and old. You get to sift for lots of different species of fossilised sharks teeth, some from extinct sharks and some from relatives of sharks still around today. You also get to take three of your favourite finds home.”
The new indoor activity this summer is Dino’s Fossil Quiz, which takes place in the Fossils Galore museum. Children answer questions about the fossils and crystals on display, with the quiz changing with every museum display change.
Other activities include fossil hunting, gold panning, geode breaking and a dinosaur hunt. With every activity children get to take something home with them.
Voted the top-rated attraction in Fenland on Trip Advisor, Fossils Galore also has a gift shop and tea room with dinosaur-themed food. Activities cost between 25p and £3 per child. All profits made go back into the business.
Jamie explained: “Every year we try and offer the public more. Last year we had one new activity for the summer and this year we’ve added two. Next year we will be aiming to add three.”
