Is this photo proof of a Fenland big cat?

THE big cat story in last week's Citizen has prompted more readers to come forward with their sightings.

A Wisbech woman took photographs a couple of weeks ago of paw prints in the snow which are very similar to ones taken by Tim Dewdney outside his Friday Bridge home.

The new prints were found in the back garden of a house on Leverington Road, almost in Wisbech town centre.

The woman described them as being as big as her hand and there was a gap of 12 to 15 inches between the prints. She said her friend has also seen strange prints in the Tydd area near the river.

One reader sent in this picture (right) taken two years ago near Manea off the March Road at about 6.45am. He describes it as a very large black cat and points out the posts on the fence were about six feet apart.

The reader doesn't think it was a panther but it caught his attention because of its size and the way it moved. "It was definitely a very large black cat," he said.

Manea has been a hotbed for big cat sightings over the years, adding more fuel to the fire that something does exist in the Fens.

A big cat is being blamed for mauling to death a pregnant ewe at Woodhouse Farm Park in Friday Bridge a few weeks ago.

Since the Citizen carried the story last month, several readers have come forward with recent sightings.

On Friday, our sister paper the Lynn News carried a story about the discovery of a savaged deer and black fur nearby which sparked new speculation about a big cat on the loose in the Shouldham area.
