Their chips are golden and crispy and have beaten all their competitors to be named as the best in the local area.

The Jolly Fryer, located on North End, in Wisbech, received the most votes in our competition and has been crowned the Fenland Citizen chip shop of 2014.

The chip shop of the year competition, launched back in February, was your chance to tell us your favourite fish and chip shop and why. Your nominations created our final shortlist of 12 local establishments and after 2 weeks of voting, The Jolly Fryer has been crowned the winner.

Thank you to everyone who nominated, voted and got in touch – we’ve been overwhelmed by the response.

To commemorate their success, we presented The Jolly Fryer with our special ‘Chip Shop of the Year 2014’ certificate.

Adrian Jarvis, who runs the Jolly Fryer with his brother Steve, said: “It’s wonderful, a really nice feeling.”

Following on from the success of our chip shop of the year competition, we will shortly be launching our salon of the year competition. For full details on how to nominate your favourite hair and/or beauty salon, simply pick up a copy of the Fenland Citizen on Wednesday, May 7.
