Kit exits the cabinet

Kit Owen one of Fenland’s longest serving councillors has stepped down from Fenland Council’s Cabinet giving ‘personal reasons’ for his decision.
He has handed his resignation to Council Leader Alan Melton, who said he “deeply regretted” Mr Owen’s departure as Portfolio Holder for Growth and Transport.
Mr Melton said: “I have enjoyed working with him over my terms as leader of the council, and he provided excellent assistance to Geoff Harper the previous leader. In fact he has not only been a brilliant member of the Cabinet but also a brilliant support to me and the Tory group as a whole.
“He has been hardworking and has done a lot of good for Fenland over the years and has been responsible for some important milestones such as the transfer of the housing stock to Roddons and the development of transport policy. He has also worked on a lot of influential outside bodies.”
Mr Owen, who plans to stay as a councillor for the “foreseeable future” refused to be drawn on just why he has decided to resign other than to say it is for purely personal reasons.
Only last week Mr Melton announced only Mr Owen would add being portfolio holder for March to his duties.
Mr Melton added: “Kit will be sadly missed.”
He also said he and deputy leader Chris Seaton would be discussing the issue of a replacement over the next few days before going to Conservative group meeting with their decision. However, there will be a cabinet restructure as a result of Mr Owen’s departure.
