A local politician is making a splash on the international stage after launching a book about the future of Britain.
David Campbell Bannerman has been one of the area’s Euro-MPs since 2009, and has always maintained the country would be better off leaving the European Union.
His new book, ‘Time to Jump’, was launched on Tuesday, in Westminster, and immediately gained national coverage as a key text in the debate over our connections with the rest of Europe.
In it, Mr Campbell Bannerman sets out the arguments for Britain to go-it-alone.
The release comes at a time that the UK’s membership of the EU is becoming more of a consideration in the electorate’s mind than ever before.
He said: “Quite rightly, more and more people in the region are realising how important an issue our EU membership is. I fully support the Prime Minister’s call for an In/Out Referendum on EU membership offering choice of a ‘Renegotiated In’ or ‘Negotiated Out’. You need to be aged 56 or over to have voted in the last European Referendum - we need to let Britain decide.”
“People are realising how large an effect the EU has on the country’s and our democracy, but not many people know that it has a very large impact on us all at a local level also.
“Bin collections have been altered, post offices shut and greenbelt built on, all directly because of the EU.
“I think decisions on matters like this should be the preserve of local people, who fully understand how it will impact on the community.
“Town halls and County Halls were set up for a reason, because politicians of all parties agreed that decisions should be made at the most local level possible.
“Much of what local Councillors do now, is under duress from bureaucrats that probably don’t even know the place exists, let alone what’s best for it.
“My book sets out why we should and how we can leave the EU.
“It also destroys some of the lies the scaremongers peddle out about the economy and jobs. We will not lose 3million jobs as a result of leaving, if anything, we will gain jobs as local businesses are freed from excessive red-tape.”
The book is forwarded by Lord Lamont, a former Chancellor in the Thatcher administration. Who says the book is first of it kind and should be studied carefully. He also attacks ‘wild claims’ and ‘false arguments’ made by those opposing British exit.
Since its launch, the book has been featured in numerous national newspapers and discussed by TV commentators.
‘Time to Jump’ is priced at £12.99 and is available from Amazon.
