Two March mothers have raised £3,000 to give something back to the doctors and nurses who helped to save their daughters’ lives.

Sherrene Newton and Victoria Russell put together a ball at the GER in March on Friday night to support Great Ormond Street Hospital, The Sick Children’s Trust and the Rosie Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit at Addenbrooke’s.

The pair, who have been friends for eight years, have seen first hand how important the work undertaken by these charities are.

Victoria and her husband David are thanking the Rosie unit for the care given to their daughter Imogen after she was born in December 2010.

Imogen was starved of oxygen at birth and suffered multi organ failure. The youngster, who had two operations and spent nine weeks in hospital, was given a life saving cooling treatment at the Rosie unit. Babies with potential brain damage are given artificial hypothermia and now she is a perfect three-year-old.

Sherrene and her partner Gary Lambert’s daughter Florence was born in September 2012 with a serious heart defect and underwent surgery at Great Ormond Street. Florence, who has an older brother, Sebastian, three, is still having regular check-ups at the hospital.

Both families used homes provided by The Sick Children’s Trust while their daughters were being treated.

Victoria said: “The hospitals saved our daughter’s lives and we wanted to give something back.

“I want my donation to go towards the cooling treatment at Rosie. Imogen is perfect and we so lucky.

“We are both really pleased to have raised £3,000 and the ball went really smoothly.”

More than 100 people went along to the ball and enjoyed a three course meal, catered by Cassanos Fine Catering in March. Live music was provided by the Jellyfishband.

The event also included a successful raffle.

The pair have thanked GER, Sainsburys at March, Ann Denzey and Anne Stimson, Rose Cottage Flowers and Hannah Barnett for supporting the ball.

They have also thanked: DJ Utilities, D Upton Carpentry,The Acre Pub March, The Ship Inn March, D Russell Electrical, Solar Savings 4 U Ltd, Salon 2, The Little Hair shop, Mulberry Hair, My Sisters Treasures.
