Mayor backs police appeal for information

Wisbech Mayor Viv MacRae said she is “lost for words” after learning about the savage killing of 86 year-old Una Crown.

Cllr MacRae said: “The horror of it. Words fail me that someone could do such a thing. When I heard about it last night it put that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I know Magazine Lane and I know people who live down there. I didn’t know the lady (Una) personally but it must be such a feeling of shock for the neighbours living there as well.”

Cllr MacRae endorses police appeals for local people to do the right thing and come forward with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem.

“People may know something in hindsight,” said Cllr MacRae, who is urging townsfolk who have elderly residents living nearby them to make time to check on them.

“As a society we have become so isolated. It doesn’t take five minutes to knock on a door just to check someone is okay.”
