Work starts at the beginning of September to improve the flood barrier at Freedom Bridge in Wisbech.
Contractors start work on September 2 and the scheme is expected to take about 12 weeks. Work will take place between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday. Occasional Saturday working between 8am and 12 noon may be required.
The purpose the improvements is to increase the effectiveness of the Nene Quay retaining wall flood defence.
A reinforced concrete retaining wall will be built, clad in bricks. Pavements will be improved and the surrounding area landscaped at the same time. Several trees will have to be taken out, but new ones will be planted.
