Clifford Stocking is the first minister at St Wendreda's Church in two years.

After two years of waiting, St Wendreda’s Church in March finally has a vicar to call its own.

Rev Clifford Stocking was licensed by the Bishop of Ely, the Right Rev Stephen Conway, at a special service on Friday evening. He is also the vicar of St John’s Church in March.

Rev Stocking was a train driver before receiving his calling and did his training at Trinity Bristol. He did his curacy at St Mary’s Hadlow, in Kent, before making the move to Cambridgeshire.

In a piece he wrote for the St Wendreda’s website, he said: “I have experienced much of life, with all its ups and downs, and I have a real sense for community.

“Many people say that I do not look like your typical vicar (I’ll let you make up your own mind on that) but what I say to that is: what does one of those look like and why should we be put into little boxes?

“It’s not what we look like or what career path we take that interests God, it’s what’s in our hearts.

“I look forward to getting to know you and working in and about the community of March.”

Rev Stocking is married to Cathy and they have recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. They have two children, Becki and Daniel.
