Residents are being asked what they think about possible changes to existing parish boundaries in Chatteris, Manea and Whittlesey.
Fenland District Council is reviewing what changes may be needed to ensure those boundaries truly reflect the identities and interests of local people and are effective and convenient for them.
The detailed “community governance review” will also consider the number of councillors needed to serve each of the parishes.
The review’s overall aim is to strengthen local democracy and encourage more community engagement. It has to take into account the identity of each area and consider the impact that any new arrangements would have on their communities.
It involves a two-part consultation. The first stage was launched on January 15 and will run for three months until April 15.
Subsequently, the council will publish its draft proposals which will be presented to its annual meeting on May 9. It will then hold a further eight-week consultation before publishing its final proposals in July. Any changes will need to be approved by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England.
