CHILDREN are already taking advantage of some new play facilities that have been installed in Wisbech Park.

Councillor Peter Murphy, Fenland District Council’s portfolio holder responsible for the environment, joined with representatives from the Friends of Wisbech Park and Wisbech in Bloom for an official opening on Thursday (February 16).

The new equipment includes a giant new football goal/wall with basketball hoop, a Supernova roundabout, a bird’s nest-type suspension cradle swing and two spring rockers.

It has all been provided free thanks to an agreement reached by FDC with playground company Kompan to supply kit for a series of play parks across the district.

Cllr Murphy said: “This is the latest in an extensive programme of improvements to play facilities that we have been carrying out throughout the district. It’s an important element in our wider efforts to encourage children to be more active by getting out in the fresh air taking more exercise.

“This is the eighth either new or refurbished play area that we have put in place in various places over the past six months.

“It was wonderful today to see the number of children and families who are already using all the new equipment here.”
