Police reassure public after reports of a machete attack in Wisbech

Victoria Road in Wisbech has been cordoned off by police following an incident earlier today.

Victoria Road in Wisbech has been cordoned off by police following an incident earlier today.

Police have played down claims of a machete wielding man who attacked another man in a Wisbech street this morning.

Victoria Road, near the town centre, has been cordoned off as police investigate the incident, which happened at around 10.30am this morning (Tuesday).

But Sgt Dav Bax, who is investigating, said it looks “a lot more serious than it is” and they are still talking to the victim, who suffered a serious but not life threatening injury to his face.

Another police officer said there was no danger to the public. Officers are currently going house-to-house in the Victoria Road area and gathering evidence.

No arrests have been made yet.

The road is expected to be closed off until dark. The police cordon runs from West Street to Milner Road, with the only access for residents. Other motorists are advised to avoid the area.
