Record hike for hitches on Valentine’s Day
More couples are choosing Valentine’s day to tie the knot at Cambridgeshire Register Office than ever before.
This year a dozen romantic couples will be holding their ceremonies at the Register Office at Shire Hall, Cambridge compared to five last year. That is one ceremony nearly every half hour.
Every year Cambridgeshire County Council’s registration service deals with over 2,000 marriage and civil partnership ceremonies, at a range of venues.
The Cambridge office will see the most ceremonies with Huntingdon holding five and March one.
Cambridgeshire County Councillor Steve Tierney, Cabinet Member for Health and Well Being, said: “Love seems to be in the air this Valentine’s Day with a record number of ceremonies taking place in Cambridge. The Registration Service conduct over 2000 marriage and civil partnership ceremonies a year and we are on hand to give couples help and advice with their planning. We wish every couple the very best for their special day. Who knows, we may also see some of them come back to renew their vows with us in years to come.”
