Security at Wisbech’s Horsefair Shopping Centre has been recognised as the best in the country.
Roger Vanhinsbergh, the centre’s security officer, has won a national award from the British Security Industry Association (BSIA).
In March, Roger won BSIA’s Regional Security Personnel Award for Service to the Customer in the Midlands and subsequently progressed to the national awards held in London.
Roger was presented with the national award for Service to the Customer, from Baroness Smith, Labour’s Shadow Home Affairs Minister for private security.
He said: “Getting nominated for the regional award was such an achievement so winning this is pretty unbelievable. I love working at the Horsefair and helping out the local community, so it’s great to have my work recognised at this level.”
Roger, who has worked at the Horsefair for over seven years, was nominated for the award by his managers for consistently exceeding the high standards required of him and always going “the extra mile” to help others.
Kevin Smith, manager of the Horsefair Shopping Centre, said: “These were awards for security personnel from all industries, not just for shopping centres, so it’s great to see Roger and the Horsefair leading the way.
“Roger has made a significant contribution to making Wisbech town centre a much safer place.”
Gary Clarke, managing director of City Security, who employ Roger, said: “The difference he has made to the local community is something special. It is no exaggeration to say that he has singlehandedly reduced the local area’s crime rate.”
