Local young farmers have helped their colleagues in Somerset by sending a lorry load of straw to the flooded south-west.

Cambridgeshire Young Farmers chairman Luke Abblitt, who farms at Ramsey St Mary, and ex-chairman Jon Eayrs wanted to help their fellow farmers after attending the National Federations Council weekend.

Their friend Daniel Clarke, from GC Dixon and Son, offered a lorry and Luke and Jon donated the straw. Last Sunday, the lorry set off to deliver its much-needed cargo as close as possible to the site.

Luke said: “After hearing the struggles of people ourselves and watching the news, we decided we had to try and help a fellow young farmers county the best way we could. And with owning cattle myself I can imagine the difficulties they are facing.”
