Temporary closure

A Wisbech pub will be closing its doors for 96 hours from tomorrow (Thursday) after being caught twice by police selling alcohol to underage volunteers.

The Horsefair Tavern, in Hill Street, accepted the closure notice and will not be able to sell alcohol from 8am on Thursday until 8am on Monday. The owners were praised by police for working closely with them to make sure processes are “tighter”.

The pub was caught for the second time last month and was one of six local pubs to be fined £80 in November. Another unnamed pub is contesting a penalty notice in court after being caught for a second time selling alcohol to youngsters in spot-checks.

Police are urging all licensees to sign up to Challenge 25 and keep good records of training and refusals.
